10 Tips For Achieving Your Goals

Podcast Transcription

Hey, guys, it's Matt. I hope you're all doing really well.

On this episode, we're going to talk about 10 tips to achieve your goals and this is actually a recording from my final episode of the Better Humans podcast, I know a lot of you listening to that show in this show, and this is actually the last episode of that show. So without further ado, let's dig right in.

The big question we all face every morning is this: How can we focus more time on the projects, activities, and relationships that are most important and meaningful to us and less time on the stuff that doesn't matter so we can actually move closer to our goals and dreams?

That is the question, and this podcast is the answer. My name is Matt East and welcome to the Goal Achievement podcast. I'm so glad you're here, now let's dig in.

Hey, guys, it's Matt I hope you're all doing really well. So this is a bittersweet episode, this is going to be the last episode of the Better Humans podcast that I record, so I just want to start off by saying thank you so much to you guys. If you've been, if you've been an audience member of this podcast, I just want to say thanks so much. I have met so many of you, this audience is just amazing, it's full of incredible people. So thank you, thank you, thank you.

If you've been a listener and if you've been one of those loyal listeners, I can see the downloads of how frequently it's being listened to and we had a nice chunk of very loyal listeners. So this has just been a fantastic experience for me, so I just want to say thank you so much to you guys, the listeners, and then also thank you to Tony.

So Tony Stubblebine, this was his idea, this podcast was his idea, and he encouraged me to kind of start it with him and it's just been an amazing run. And I just want to thank Tony so much for his vision and getting it started and I'm sure he and I will collaborate on something down the road. But I know Tony has something up his sleeve for the better humans community out there so stay tuned on that. But thank you so much, to the audience, thank you so much to Tony, I can't wait to work on something else with you, this has been so much fun.

I met so many incredible people doing this show and I've remained in touch with a lot of them. So Chris Sauers coached me through writing my book. Larry Cornett just had me on his podcast and I begged him to start a podcast after he was a guest on this show so that kind of came full circle. Laura Silverstein is a member of my mastermind so I have a mastermind of about 65 people and she is flat-out incredible and I met her through this podcast by having her on, she was an author of a Better Humans article, and then she came on here.

So this has been awesome getting to know people, I interviewed Buster Benson, who's a great author, David Allen, who is like, you know, the king of time management and productivity and he had an absolutely fabulous episode on here, I'm so grateful that I was able to connect with him, Miral was another guest on here who's a popular author, an incredible person.

So it's just been incredible, we... we popped in and out of the top 100 in the genres that we focused on Apple podcast, that was amazing, just absolutely amazing. What an incredible experience, I'm so thankful and grateful for it and so hopefully, hopefully, we get to stay in touch.

So as most of you know, I still do my first podcast, which is the Goal Achievement podcast and, and so you can search Matt East or Goal Achievement podcast, and that should pop right up if you want to keep listening to... to one of my shows and I've got, I've got a, I think I've got another show up my sleeve too, so I might have something coming.

But I wanted to leave you guys with just ten ideas and I just want to leave you with ten thoughts I just jotted down some notes of I was like, what can I leave the audience with? I don't want to just come on here and say it's the last episode I want to provide as much value as possible. So I'm just going to riff I just have this kind of jotted down and I'm going to just chat through them.

So I've got ten, ten ideas that I want to leave you with and here we go for the final episode.

So number one: Just remember, guys...

If you're struggling to take action on something, remember that motivation almost always follows your action.

And that's backwards is from what most people think and this is like the number one thing I wish I would've known when I was like 20 years old, that motivation follows action, not the other way around.

So think about it, If you're about to go work out like you don't feel like working out, but if you somehow, like, fight through it and actually start working out like 15 minutes into your workout, it's like the greatest thing ever, you're motivated to continue and your body feels great and you only got to that spot because you started like you took action. So your motivation only came after you started working out for 15 minutes.

And it's like that in almost everything you're going to do in life so I just want to kind of give you that, I don't know, I wish... I wish I knew that man, I wish I knew that 20 years ago or whenever I don't know when I learned that but, man.

So motivation follows action, get started and let the motivation, your motivation to continue and your motivation follow taking that action and that is, man, that is like the seeker right there.

So second thing: Set weekly and monthly targets and set daily priorities to achieve those targets man.

Don't meander through your life, don't... don't meander and just hope for things to, that you're going to like fall backwards into achieving your goals, set weekly targets, set monthly targets and set daily priorities that are going to help you achieve those targets, and I should say set annual goals, too, but definitely set targets and actually hit those targets by taking five or ten minutes every day and setting your daily priorities, there's no other way to do it.

Your life is going to get so much easier if you know where you're going and you have clarity about where you're heading, being intentional about where you're heading is going to make your life so much easier. Stop meandering through your day, set your targets, determine your daily priorities, and man, that will help so much, so I would encourage you to do that.

Third thing: Finish everything strong, finish stuff.

Remember, if something that you work on, that there's just so many creatives in this audience so I want to share this. If something that you're working on like you're writing something that you want to post online, you're creating a podcast or you're building a business or whatever, if you get to 99.99 Percent done and you don't launch it, that doesn't help anyone, it literally helps no one.

It's... You should have just never even started finishing and launching your stuff matters, finishing and launching your stuff matters. So I just want to encourage you finish strong, wrap the damn project up, wrap the podcast up, wrap the business, I shouldn't say wrap it up, launch the business. You know, take your stuff into the market and let the market decide, and I would just really encourage that.

Don't be someone that gets 60 percent done and then quits or 80 percent done and then quit or 99.99 percent done and then doesn't launch something. So I would encourage you, man, launch stuff, build stuff launch stuff, finish strong and... and, you know, establish what the finish line looks like for you before you get there so you know what, when you've hit that finish line and when you can launch stuff, so... so that's the third thing.

Fourth thing: oh, here's a big one, man. I wish I wish I had this mindset when I was younger.

Run into problems, realize that problems are good, problems are an indicator of success.

If all you did was wake up every day and go sit on the couch like you'd have no problems, like if you had unlimited money and you just sat on the couch all day, no problems, you're not running in any problems but that's also not a great life. Like you're not out doing stuff and making stuff happen and creating and doing magical things.

Like if you're doing stuff, you're going to run into problems and just realize that those problems are usually an indicator of progress, not an indicator of problems, so keep that in mind, problems are almost always good. If, if you don't have any problems, you're probably not making enough progress.

So just kind of shift your mind around problems if you're able to do that, the next problem you have, think, man, did I... Is this a problem because I'm out there doing stuff and... and I'm making stuff happen, if it is man that's a good problem to have, and I would just encourage you to... to recognize that.

OK, next thing: Don't be afraid to increase your rate of rejection.

Your rate of rejection is going to largely dictate your rate of success. If you think about this, there are so many writers on better humans, I mean, the amount of stories of writers being rejected before they were accepted or published or, you know, there's just tons of those examples. But think about it in your life, how could you actually increase your rate of rejection and increase your success rate?

So if right now you're submitting, you know, one article a week, what will happen, if you submitted three articles a week and you got rejected on two of those every week, I mean, you're able to, if you're able to get comfortable with that rejection and being rejected in life, if you're able to pick up the phone and make phone calls and be willing to be rejected on a sales call man and your success can just skyrocket if you don't get paralyzed by failure and I mean, picking up the phone is kind of an old reference.

But just think even, you know, DMing someone to do a collaboration or something like that like you're gonna get rejected and it's fine if you can 10 times your amount of rejection, I guarantee your success rate goes way, way, way, way up.

So I would encourage you to just think through that and reframe how you're looking at rejection. Could that rejection really propel you to incredible success? OK.

Number six: Set big targets that get you excited.

I wish I would have known this. I wish I would have done this and again, I always set stuff that I always basically knew I was going to hit so it would be like super reasonable, the problem with doing that is that unless a target is big, unless a goal is big, you can lose motivation quickly. And I have just found like way more success as I've set much larger targets for myself, I may fall short of them, but at least I'm excited about them along the way and I'm excited to hit them.

And I would just encourage you to set big targets for yourself, set big goals for yourself, think big and excuse me, and yeah, don't set tiny little goals, set some big targets for yourself, and then go out there and hit them.

Ok, number seven: Plan backward from your goals and know your number.

So if you're trying to hit something, let's say you're trying to do a, you know, a financial goal where you're trying to hit a number of a certain, like, income or something, know your goals. If you're trying to make 120k a year or whatever, know what you got to do, you got to make 10k a month to make that happen and know your numbers back into how you're going to get there.

Totally, there's a lot of stuff online about this, but know your numbers, know what has to happen for you to make that, to make that larger goal happen back into it, it's not it's not a mystery, and if it's a mystery, it's going to be hard to hit that goal, so back into your numbers.

If you're a writer and you get paid, you know, a thousand bucks for every piece that you produce and you want to make 100K, I mean, you can figure it out. I mean, you got to write 100 things and if you get rejected on half your things, you've got to write 200 things, I shouldn't say things, 200 articles, so know your numbers and then back into them and that's going to help you out so much.

I think about my numbers and back into my numbers all the time. The most successful people, the highest achievers, highest achievers, they know what they want to do, they know their numbers, they know what they got it back into, they know what they have to hear each day to reach their goals.

OK, number eight: Be clear on what you want.

Don't be meandering through your day, decide what you want to do and knock it out, decide what you want in life, knock it out, decide what you want to achieve this month, knock it out, decide what needs to get accomplished this week, knock it out.

And man, life gets so much easier with clarity and with intention, move through your day with clarity and intention and I almost can guarantee that life gets easier, not harder. All right only two more left.

Number nine: Stop making excuses.

No excuses, take ownership. No doubt about it the most successful people and the highest achieving people, they take ownership for the results they're creating, they take ownership for their life, they take ownership for their relationships, then I would just encourage you to do the same.

No excuses, there's no reason to make any excuses. If something happened, you know, it happened because of you, it didn't happen to you, and definitely own that mindset. OK.

Number ten: Anticipate immediate challenges and adjust reactions accordingly.

Yeah, figure out if there's going to if you're headed into something and you know, there's going to be some challenges, specific challenge, like, you know it in your gut, trust your gut, trust your instincts, trust yourself and make the just adjustments that you need you know, if you...

If you're going to start something and, and you're going to start going to the gym or something, you know, that's going to be a challenge, make the proper adjustments to make that easier on yourself. Like if you're let's that's a good example if you're going to try to get up in the gym every morning to head to the gym, man... pack your bag for the gym the night before so that when the morning comes, you can hop out of bed and grab your bag and it's not as daunting.

So think through little hacks like that that you can do, that's something, you know, that's stuff that's straight stolen from atomic habits and... And make, make your... make your life easier by setting yourself up for success with stuff like that, pack that bag before the gym. OK.

Bonus, this is the last one, and then I'm out of here guys, you're going to frickin die, you're going to turn into dust, and I just want to leave you with this.

Take some chances, have some fun, do the things that you're thinking about doing.

Like do them like, stop thinking about doing them, take some action, you know, figure out what has to get done and do it, and there's no magic involved, man you got to do it, you got to take action, you've got to you got to move through your day, you've got to get clarity, you have to have intention, you have to take action.

And there's no you know, there's just nothing magical about it and I, that's what I want to leave you with. There's nothing magical whatever you want to achieve, man, I guarantee you can achieve it, I mean, if you think about it, if you just don't quit, you're going to achieve it. Now, are you willing to stick with it long enough not to quit?

I mean, almost everything in your life is that way, if you want to write a book, why can't you write a book? Sit down and write a book, the only thing that's going to stop you from writing a book is if you quit, and if you stop and you don't write the book anything else, you're going to have challenges, you're gonna have struggles. You can go a week without writing, you can go a month without writing, you can go a day without writing, the only thing that's going to stop you from writing a book is if you quit if you completely quit.

So I just encourage you to hang in there, do your stuff, take action, don't quit, and you can do just about anything you want in your life. So that's it, man that was just burned through some stuff that was a straight off the cuff right there, so that's it.

The Weight Of Not Starting

Podcast Transcription

Hey guys, it's Matt. Hope you're all doing really well.

On today's episode, we're going to talk about removing that weight that you feel that you lug around with you because you're not taking action on that big project, that big book, that big podcast, that big, that business you want to launch. And there's that weight you feel that from not taking action, we're going to talk about that feeling, you know, we're going to talk about how you can relieve that feeling on today's episode. So let's get right into it.

Hey guys, it's Matt. I hope you're all doing really well. I, it's early in the morning here, it's Friday. What is it? May 7th and I just was thinking about something, a concept, and I wanted to share it with you, it's something I've been thinking a ton about recently.

So, you know, I work with a ton of people, a ton of clients who want to launch something like a book or a podcast or a business, and they will tell me like, that they wanted to do this, like some of them have wanted to do it for a long time, like years, like they have this book that's been percolating in their head for years or a podcast or, or business and it feels like really like weighty or that's not a great word, is it, like it just feels like super like, cumbersome to them, like they want to do this, but they're not taking action on it, and it just feels it's like exhausting to them that few of them have used that word and I've experienced this, too so I can, that weighty is kind of how I would describe it to myself, but I realize that isn't a great word to explain this.

But anyway, so, like, you want to launch something, you want to do something, you want to move forward on a project and you're not taking action and you're feeling this like weird, like regret slash like, I don't know, wait, slash like just it just feels like a lot of guilt too, like you felt this guilt that you haven't started, at least that's how I... I have felt when I have lacked like launching projects in the past like I wish I would have launched.

There's nothing that I've started that I wish I didn't basically start sooner like I should have started the podcast sooner, I should have wrote my book sooner, I should have started my business sooner, like all of that stuff I wish I did sooner and I should have like it felt it felt weighty prior and, and I should have just done it like instead of thinking about I should have just taken action and done it.

So I want to just share that, like a lot of people don't start because writing that book or starting a podcast or starting a business or whatever that your big thing is like, it takes a lot of work and it takes a like grinding and it takes some hustle and it's going to be a hassle, and it's there's a lot to it.

So all those things are, all your fears are real: Like it is going to take time, it is going to be a grind, it is going to take a lot of effort and energy and intentionality and focus and all those things, all of that stuff is true.

But, but it's not like not starting, it is just effortless and is painless, like not starting, it feels weighty and you feel like crap because you haven't started it and you have this nugget of an idea that, that needs to be executed on and you're not so it just feels like super weighty and you just feels like something's kind of like hovering over you in a weird way because you're not taking action on this thing.

So my point is: Doing the thing, doing the project, doing the business, the podcast, the book, like it's going to take effort, it's going to be hard, it's going to be a hustle to do it, it's going to be a pain in your butt, it's going to be harder than you expect, it's going to take more time than you expect, all those things, those are all true.

But not taking action isn't the answer, like, that sucks too, like that's going to that's going to feel, you're going to feel the same way forever, it's not going to go away until you actually appease it and kick off the project and start making some progress.

So I hope this helps someone, help someone out there who's like been on the fence for years about something and it like feels like a lot of weight on their shoulders, and it's just kind of a cumbersome thing in their life, and they need a nudge.

So the only way to get rid of that is to like, one kill the idea and say, hey, it's never I'm never going to do this and this isn't happening, so you stop, and I don't even know if that would work.

But the real option is you frickin write the book. You've had it in your head for two years or three years or five years or ten years, like write the damn book, start the, start the business and start the podcast, whatever that thing is, that feels like it's kind of a burden to you that you haven't started it and maybe it's time to start it to, to relieve that pressure, and that's a good word, it's like kind of a pressure that you feel that you don't know why you feel it.

So that's it, that's it.

The point is: Doing things is hard.

Launching that project is hard, launching that book, launching that business, launching that that podcast, podcast, business, and book, launching those things, that it's hard, it's going to be hard. It's going to be way harder than you think, and that doesn't mean you shouldn't do it, because not doing it also is hard, and if it's going to be hard either way, why not just do the dang thing right?

Like logically, if it's going to be hard either way, why not at least be taking action and moving and growing? And, and it's not guaranteed to be a success, but it's guaranteed that you start to lose that, that weighty, you know, like couch feeling across your shoulders that you feel now like that you've been thinking about this project for, for literally years now and not taken action on. So that's what I would, that's my, that's my rant this morning, is that it's a pain in the butt either way, so why not reap the rewards and launch the dang thing?

I can honestly say, man, I wish I launched my business sooner, I wish I launched my podcast sooner, I wish I launched my book sooner, no doubt about it, no doubt about it. Like all, all of those things felt weighty prior to me launching them and I could have just solved that immediately by launching, and I've gotten a lot better about this in recent years where I'm just like, screw it, I'm going to do it, and if it doesn't work out, I can make changes. It's not the end of the world at all. It's not even a big deal, I can iterate, I can refine along the way, and you can do that too.

If you launch something and it's not perfect and it's not what you envisioned, you have the ability to reiterate and to iterate along the way and to refine it, and to make it what you want. I can almost guarantee that book you're thinking of your first draft. It's going to be way crappier than what it is in your head and that's fine, it's no big deal, it's no big deal at all, just absolutely no big deal.

So that's it, if this podcast put you over the edge, if you've been thinking about something for like years and you're like, screw it, Matt is right it feels like crap not doing this, I might as well do it. I would love to hear about your, the thing that you're going to launch, I'd absolutely love to hear that, shoot me an email and tell me what you're going to launch and build that you've been thinking about for years.

Because because, you know, it's… it's a grind to not do stuff. That's something people don't think about very often, is that like it can be like mental gymnastics to not take action.

So that's it, the little Friday, little Friday podcast for you guys.

Hope you're all doing absolutely wonderful, I've had a great week, I hope you've had a great week. It's, the weather's really warming up here in Indy and the trees are starting to fill out. It just looks beautiful and it's a fun time of year, it's a fun time of year to… to dig in and work on something, too.

So that's it, I hope you guys are doing great, I hope if there's something that feels weighty and you've been thinking about it for years, you make the decision to get clear on what you want to actually create and then start building it, and if you feel like you're procrastinating for other reasons, I have a ton of episodes go back and there's a podcast episode, I think it's titled How to Stop Procrastinating, and that might help you, too.

But, but anyway, the point go get started, it's going to be hard, it's going to take a lot of effort, it's going to take time, it's going to take energy, it's going to be not as smooth as it is in your head, and that's fine, and there's huge benefits to actually starting so that you can relieve this weightiness that you feel each day.

So that's it, hope you guys have a great weekend. If you need anything, let me know, and that's it. Bye-bye.

Monday Morning Motivation

Podcast Transcription

It's Monday, May 3rd, 2021, this is Monday morning, motivation for Patreons only. Let's get your week started off right.

Good morning, it's Matt hope you're all doing really well. This is day number 123 into the year, which means we're 33.42 through the year, that's the bad news. The good news is we have 242 days remaining and over 66 percent of the year remains, so let's get dialed in.

Something I want you to consider before this week begins before you really dive into it is just how the time this week you're never going to get back, you're never going to get this week back. It's so critical for you to understand that, and once you realize that, I just want to encourage you to not take any chances, chances with it. I wanna encourage you to proactively determine your fate this week, you're not going to get this week back, you're not going to get the time back.

Don't take today for granted, don't take this week for granted, it's absolutely time to execute.

If you're... if you are paying me to get you jacked up for the week through these Patreon recordings, you are doing stuff in your life, and if you're doing stuff in your life that you're wanting to get jacked up about, you're wanting to be excited about, do not meander through your day, do not meander through your week.

Make a decision about what you want to accomplish this week, make a decision about what needs to be accomplished today, get laser-focused about it, and let's knock it out.

No messing around.

That clarity is going to provide so much positive direction for you as you're moving throughout the day because stuff's going to come up, crap's going to come up, and if you know where you want to go, you are in such a better position to get there and while you're thinking about what you want to accomplish, I just want to encourage you.

This is something we've worked on for a couple of weeks now, I just want you to make the decision that today is going to be a great day, make the decision that this is going to be a great week, it's just going to be a great week. You can make that decision today and you can make the decision to bring tremendous energy to your interactions and bring a positive outlook with you as you are collaborating with others or as you're working on... on your projects throughout the day, you get to decide the energy that you're going to move through, move through your day with.

And I just want to challenge you to take a couple of minutes and consider that, and consider how you want to, what type of energy you want to enter the room with, what type of energy you want to bring to your discussions and your collaborations and your clients and your, your work.

And I just want to also challenge you to trust your gut and execute on your work, trust your gut, each of you, you guys, all I know everybody that's a patron. Each of you are tremendous guys that have, that are working on really amazing stuff, and you guys all have incredible instincts, and I want you to trust those instincts.

I want you to trust your gut this week as you're executing on your work.

If you struggle at all with motivation this week, you're not going to struggle. Today, you're probably ready to dive into your work, you're coming out of your weekend. But if you're struggling at some point this week, I want you to just get started on that activity that needs to be done and trust that your motivation and your flow will follow after you get started.

We talk about this all the time. Trust your motivation to follow after you get started, trust your process, and, and I almost guarantee if you can get into your work, yeah, I know what each of you are working on. If you can get into your work, that motivation is almost always going to follow, it's always going to come for you guys.

So just want to also encourage you to remove self-doubt by taking action.

I want you to err towards too much action this week, err towards too much action if you're thinking, hey, should I do this or shouldn't I? Most of the time the answer is, take action, be the aggressor, dig in, make the phone call, send the email, be the aggressor. 99 percent of the time that's the right answer.

More action is the answer.

And one last thing, as you're thinking about your targets and your goals and how this week plays into those, here's a challenge for you. This is for a specific patreon, so Ben has written an incredible book, he's starting to get some amazing momentum around and he's been working on the recording with some actors, voice actors, and... a voice actor, and, and it's just going really well. And I know he mentioned in the mastermind, he said, you know, it's this thing's going to definitely sell. I'm going to like, it's going to sell 10000 copies, and I completely 1000 percent agree with that, absolutely no doubt about it.

So I know that you know that it can sell 10000 copies.

I just want to challenge you to increase that goal, I'd go for a bigger target man, I'd go for a monster target, you know, make it make your brain thinking about not 10000, but about 100000. That, that's the number that it's going to reach, that that's the number it's going to get to, I think there's no doubt you can do that.

And if you only get to 25 percent of that number, so if you fail by 75 percent, you still hit 25000 copies versus hitting your goal of, say 10k and you never said your goal was 10K? I'm just saying that this is a good example of having a big target. So you've never told me what your goal, as you just mentioned, that, hey, this thing's going to at least sell this thing is going to sell 10000 copies, and I 100 percent agree with that.

I just want to challenge you to get a little more comfortable with pursuing even a bigger target, like a, like a, like 100000, if that's what gets you thinking a little more, gets you a little bit, I don't know, just more juiced up like a bigger target. Like if that scares you a little bit, I'd go after that 100k number and, and if you only get halfway there, you sell 50000. If you get you know, if you only get 25 percent of the way there, you sell 25000.

So that's just a challenge, I mean, I'm trying to make these a little more personal since there's only a limited number of patrons. So my shout-out is to Ben. Ben, think about a big goal man, you... There's no doubt you can do it, and I want to help you hit that goal any way that I can. But I just want to encourage you to get comfortable with pursuing some big targets. And, and I just want to challenge you to think big, to get some big thinking going on.

We all need to think bigger, man. I need to think bigger.

And so that's just kind of a reminder, hey, let's think big on this, and you don't you know, nobody judge, and if you get 100 percent to your goal with you get you know, think if you get 75 percent to 100000 goal, that's 75000, it's unbelievable.

So anyway, big goals, big goals for everybody.

Think big, big goals.

Not, not little thinking, big thinking this week and that's it, I just want to encourage you guys to have a great week. You know, you're given 365 days per year, you have 242 of those remaining right now. 28 days left to go this month, you guys get 24 hours in a day. You probably have, what about 18 of those hours remaining, so let's really capitalize, let's make it a great week.

If you need anything from me, let me know.

Let's make it a great day.

Take the time to get clear on what you want to accomplish today and what you want to accomplish with your time and energy this week.

Let's do it, go get them.

How to Create Motivation For Yourself

Podcast Transcription

Hey guys, it's Matt.

On today's episode, we're going to talk about how to create motivation for yourself.

So instead of waiting around for motivation to strike, how could you create motivation proactively for yourself?

This is another Patreon episode, which I'm releasing every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday morning. So if you want to subscribe to get this proactively, this content proactively, you can do that at patreon.com. Just search my name Matt East and you will find it and that is 7 dollars and 99 cents a month, and it's amazing.

I highly recommend going there to, to check it out. I have also unlocked a couple episodes there too for free so you can go and listen to exactly what they sound like. So that's it guys, hope you love this episode. If you have anything, if you have any questions or need anything, just let me know, all right, here we go.

First off, thank you so much for your support of my Patreon page, it's my intention to challenge, motivate and inspire you each day with this content to help you achieve your goals and dreams. I hope you're enjoying it, if you are, we need more subscribers, share it socially, share it with a friend or two that you think would enjoy it. And by the way, if you're not enjoying it, cancel your dang subscription. Don't be you know...come on.

Now, OK remember, as a supporter, you can comment on my Patreon page. I would love to hear your thoughts and feedback, I'm recording and distributing this content every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, so you should always receive new posts on those days. If you're a subscriber, they're just sent to your email inbox, which is great.

So let's dig in. If you've listened to the previous episodes, we've talked about how you need to be finding clarity each morning, so you're starting the day laser-focused. We talked about taking ownership of the results you're creating in your life, we talked about being proactive with the energy and the attitude you're approaching your day with, we talked about learning about the power of recurring revenue and how that can impact your business, and we even reframed how, how to perceive and how to look at rejection, and I hope all those topics were helpful.

Today we're going to do a dive into... I'm going to share a couple of secrets around motivation.

So what if you're doing all these things, you're taking all these steps, you've been listening, this content, you're implementing it, but you're still not quite where you want to be from a motivation standpoint. Let's chat through a couple tactics that you can use to increase that level of motivation.

So the first thing your motivation is lacking, what do you do? I would say your goals are too low, your targets are too low, if you're doing all of the above and you're still not feeling super motivated, you need to increase your targets, you need to increase your goals. So you need to be inspired about the goals that you are seeking. You hear that? That's important, man.

You need to be inspired about the goals that you are pursuing, the goals that you are seeking.

And this is something I struggled with for years. And I've really reframed in the last couple of years how I approach my goals, how I approach my kind of mindset around financially about what I want to make and stuff, here's an example that you know, and this is something I just want to give credit, this is something that Grant Cardone has taught me and is really drilled in my head and it's been super helpful.

So would you rather have a target of making 100000 dollars per month and miss by half? Or would you rather have a target, a goal of making 5000 dollars a month and just drill it every month? You know, you always make 5k, you always hit your goal of making 5k.

You know, in that situation, the person missing their target by half is still making 10 times the person that's hitting their 5k a month target, you get that? So somebody who has a target of 100K, they're missing it by half, they're still making 50 K a month. Somebody who has a target of hitting 5k a month and they are drilling that 5k month goal every month, and that's what they're, that's what they're hitting, 5k a month, that's what they're bringing in, they're still, they're still 10 times less than the person that is shy of their target by half.

So I struggled with this for a long time, I set really reasonable goals that I knew I thought I could be methodical about but achieve, and I've really transformed how I look at my financial targets, and I mean, even right now, I have really high targets for our household income and I probably need to put a multiplier behind them just for this purpose alone, just to feel super inspired each day.

So, you know, I want your targets to be a little outside of your comfort zone, and I would really challenge you to take a deeper dive.

If you're not feeling motivated, do the math on some bigger targets, get motivated and or get inspired and see if that increases your motivation, this works, man, I'm telling you, this works that doing the math on the recurring revenue, like most of you guys have side hustles or you have a business, start doing the math on, on that stuff, and that is a great way to get inspired. I have on my tape to my second monitor here, I have some math right now and, and it's big-time math and I probably need to put a multiplier on it, so that's the first one.

Set bigger, larger, more aspirational goals for yourself, that will help.

The second thing, this is my favorite frickin thing to talk about, I love this... This is the number one thing that's probably helped more of my clients than anything else, and that is realizing that your motivation is always going to be inspired by taking action, and if you drill this into your head and you adopt this for the rest of your life, it will be like having a superpower for yourself.

It's literally the best superpower you could probably have better than being like anything, it's... this is unbelievable if you realize that your motivation will come around, if you just start taking action, that is an unbelievable concept. Let's chat, chat through that so we're very clear.

Think about this from an exercise perspective: if you exercise every few days or whatever it is every other day or daily, there are going to be days where you don't feel like exercising, but if you're someone who exercises frequently, you realize you basically just have to get started, and 10 or 15 minutes into your workout, you're going to feel inspired to continue.

And you can take that exact principle and you can apply that in other aspects of your life, writing, building your business, dealing with anything, anything in your life. If you can realize that you don't need to wait around, sit around for motivation, you need to take action and that motivation is going to follow, man that is a straight-up superpower, that is like the that's the Holy Grail.

If you can figure out how to do that, and I would just, you know, really challenge you to try to implement that in your life as opposed to waiting for motivation, get started, your motivation will follow, and that is absolutely life-changing, if you can figure that out, so that's it.

The first thing was, set bigger, larger aspirational goals for yourself, stuff that gets your blood flowing a little bit. And the second was realizing that motivation is always going to be inspired through your action and not the other way around, you can't just wait around to feel motivated in order to take action.

So that's it, guys, put those two things, adopt those two tips and you're going to be, going to be in a better spot from a motivation perspective, I hope you guys are having an amazing week so far, I hope you're moving through your day with intention and focus and clarity and... excuse me, and I hope that you are just really adopting this stuff and implementing it and it's helping you out, if you need anything, please let me know they like, I'd like to help any way I can. Let's make it a great day.

This is from yesterday. I'm recording these every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. And you can receive them in your inbox. So when you wake up in the morning, they're just sitting right there and you don't have to listen to all of this introduction stuff like you do on the podcast. It just gets right into the content to motivate you and inspire you to have a great day. If you guys have any questions about my Patreon stuff, you can reach out to me.

You know where my website is at… Matt-East.com.

These recordings are perfect for you. They're meant for you and they're only I think it's seven dollars and ninety-nine cents for a month.

So you get every single recording Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. I schedule them to go out kind of in like the middle of the night, my time. So when you wake up, pretty much no matter where you're at in the world, it should be sitting in your inbox. It gets a little challenging for people and for listeners in Australia and kind of over there. But for the most part, if you are in the U.S. or in Europe, man, they're just sitting right there for you, ready to rock and roll so that you can just start your day with the mindset that you need to have an amazing day and so that you're ready to accomplish more.

You are in a mindset that you can reclaim your time and move through your day with intention and focus so that you could be laser-focused throughout the day and not just meandering through the day. It will help you to stop feeling so overwhelmed and you can really start to make some significant progress on your goals. So if you want to spend more time each day on what's most important and meaningful to you, this is a great, great way to do that at a very low price point to get you primed for the day. So I wanna encourage you to go pull the trigger and sign up for this. It's patreon.com. That is p a t r e o n ...

Spike buddy, you what?. Oh, he wants you guys to subscribe. Oh, yeah, they're going to subscribe, buddy. Buddy. Oh, well, they're going to subscribe. I'm telling them right now. Yeah. He wants you guys to subscribe. They're going to...relax. He kind of makes this with me every morning. So he's a little pissed that you guys haven't subscribed more of you haven't subscribed. So that's it. Subscribe Spike wants you to subscribe, I want you to subscribe. And here's the recording from Thursday.

The big question we all face every morning is this: How can we focus more time on the project's activities and relationships that are most important and meaningful to us and less time on the stuff that doesn't matter so we can actually move closer to our goals and dreams?

That is the question, And this podcast is the answer. My name is Matt East and welcome to the Goal Achievement podcast, I'm so glad you're here.

Now let's dig in.

Gang, it's Matt, I hope you're all doing really well, thanks again for subscribing as a patreon. I really appreciate it. It's my intention to help you achieve your goals and your dreams with this content. As you know, new audio is being released every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. And today is Thursday. So Thursday, April 22nd. 2021, it's day number 112 of the year. So we've got 253 days remaining we're thirty point four one percent into the year with sixty-nine point five nine percent remaining.

So are you ready to rock? Are you clear on what you want to accomplish with your time today? Do you have clarity? Are you intentional about what you want to achieve? Are you ready to move closer to your goals today? Just wanna encourage you.

Take the time to design a plan for you, day... For... For your day. Let's get crystal clear on your priorities and crystal clear about what you are going to accomplish with your time today. What do you want to have completed when you reflect back on your day this evening? When you think back to your day, are you going to be proud of what you accomplished? And if so, what is it that you want to ensure that you get done? Let's make a plan. Let's block some time to do so. Do those things and let's really knock it out.

No excuses.

I want you to really own your results for the attitude and the energy that you're bringing into your day-to-day. We're on the back half of the week here. There's probably loose ends that you need to tie up from the previous couple of days. And there's probably some things that you really want to accomplish before the weekend. So let's get crystal clear on what those things are and let's really be the aggressor here and let's make stuff happen. So that's it. Really short episode today. This is how I intend these to be.

So just a reminder that the next twenty-four hours, you know, you're not going to get back. So make a plan and let's make the most out of it. You've got eight days left in this month. Eight days, man, that's crazy. Eight days left in this month.

Make a plan and make the most out of it.

We have sixty-nine days left in Q2. Let's make the most of that. And you have 253 days left this year. Lots of time for you guys to still execute and to achieve your goals for the year and to hit your targets. But we have to make a plan and we have to execute. Do not meander through your day-to-day. Let's figure it out. Let's be aggressive with them, make it a plan. And... And let's be really proactive about the energy that you bring with you throughout the day, the energy that you... in a rooms... with the energy that you bring to your work. So let's be positive. Let's... Let's really make today count. We're not going to get today back to you cannot emphasize that enough. I mean, let's capitalize on... On your time today. If you need anything, please let me know. I'm happy to help any way that I can. And you guys know where to hunt me down.

So let's do it.

Big day wrapping up the week, this is my last recording for this week, so let's really in strong, let's make it a great week or a great end of your week. And if you need anything let me know, that's it bye.

Hey, guys, it's Matt again, hope you'll love that episode and I hope it was helpful, hope it was insightful, hope it inspired you, hope it motivated you.

And if you want more content like that, go to Patreon, patreon.com type in Matt East and or go to your show notes and look it on my website. You can do about anything and you can find a way to subscribe and get an audio clip just like that every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Can you imagine waking up to that every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday and that's it.

I hope you guys liked that, And if you need anything, email me

Touch base. Mostly a lot of you guys are clients.

Just reach out, whatever.

You guys just get a hold of me. If you need something, just get a hold of me, you know…You know where to find me.

That's it bye.

Morning Motivation - 4/21/2021

Podcast Transcription

Morning, gang, it's Matt, I hope you're all doing really well. Thanks again for subscribing as a patreon. I really appreciate it.

It's my intention to help you achieve your goals with this content. As you know, new audio is released to patreons every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

And today's Wednesday, Wednesday, April 21st, 2021. It's day number 111 of the year. So we have 254 days remaining, we're thirty point one-four percent through the year. And that puts us at sixty-nine point eighty-six percent of the year remaining. So we've just dipped under that 70 percent mark.

So how is your week going?

Are you moving through it with clarity and intention? Do you know where you are headed before your day begins before you dig into your work? Are you determining your priorities to focus on before the day begins?

I hope so, I hope you've taken the time to design a plan for your day each day this week. I hope you've taken some time to think about what you want to accomplish this week. I hope you have taken the time to build some annual goals for the year so you know where you're going.

Yesterday I was doing a complimentary consult with... A consultation with that gentleman, he's 46 years old. He said he doesn't have time to plan out stuff because he feels like he has, like, lost too much ground, he has too much ground to make up to achieve his entrepreneurial pursuits. Dude is 46.

Now, let's just remove some emotion out of this and look at data. Currently, right now, if you are alive and you're 35 years old, your life expectancy is you'll live to be about 82 years old. If you are alive right now, when you're 50, your life expectancy is to be 83 years old. I think this is out of like England and Wales is this data. But, you know, you get the point. So if you're 35 right now, you're on average live to be 82. If you're 50, you're expected to be... Your life expectancy is 83 because that removes like child mortality rates and some other stuff. They're saying, hey, if you've already made it to 50, they project you're going to make it to 83.

So this cap was 46 years old. So just going by the data, he's expected to live to be one around eighty-two and a half or so. And that means he has another thirty-six point five years left, thirty-six point five years.

So he has time...

And you guys, you have time... You have time. That doesn't mean you can't, you shouldn't function every day, make a plan and execute. But what it does mean is if you do this stuff, if you actually execute every day and just stop worrying about. Like worrying and it's stopping you from taking action and you actually do your shit every day, you're going to make progress and you're going to move forward on your goals.

He mentioned to me he was worried about his competition. Let me tell you guys what your competition's doing right now, the average person. Let me pull up what's trending on Google right now. Yeah, this is great. OK, I just pulled up... This is right now, I just pulled up what's trending on Google?

This is what's trending on Google right now, this is what people are looking at right now. This what the world is looking at, this is your competition, the world is your competition, this is what they're focusing on:

Coronavirus masks, Greg Abbott, the governor of Texas, Las Vegas Raiders, Nike, Kobe Bryant, Michigan teacher cuts hair, Jake Paul, Trey Lance, NFL Pro Day, Mom's mother's day gifts... Now, that's a good one, yeah... Get your mom a mother's day gift that's the first decent one here... Doug Deucy Masks, Las Vegas gas shortage, Green Bay Packers mock draft, Sean Hannity live, Prince Charles, Prince Harry, Boston Red Sox, and flag is at half staff today.

That is what people are focused on, they are not taking care of business. I'm telling you, people are fucking around all day, they're not executing. You have a huge advantage... If you can, like, stay off social media, stay out of Google and just execute on your work. This dude, that's forty-six years old, he's going to live. What do we decide? He's going to live another thirty-six point five years, thirty-six point five years.

He has tons of time... He has tons of time... Tons of time.

I mean, it's... It's just a matter of executing, it's a matter of like making a plan and executing on that plan every day and getting out of your own way. I mean, the idea that, like, he's too busy to like... He's too busy to determine his priorities. It's literally like the funniest thing ever to me, it's... I shouldn't say it's funny, it's sad. And hopefully, I convinced him and I shared my book with him, which hopefully that I probably need to, like, tighten up the messaging in there to get like even more compelling. But it's just literally the opposite, thinking he has plenty of time, but he has to execute each day just like you

So a couple of messages there. One, your competition isn't nearly what you think it is. They are... I mean, just go look at what they're doing... I mean, I spent online. I'm just telling you, if you just wake up, function, and do your stuff, if you're an author and you write books, you're going to be in good shape. If you're a course creator, you're creating courses each day, you're going to be in good shape if you know, it's just... It's just not as your competition is not nearly as fierce as you're making them out in your head and especially like a lot of stuff that we're working on.

I know for me personally, it doesn't matter, the market doesn't. They can buy David Allen stuff and they can buy my stuff, and same thing with you, like other authors in your space, they can buy your book and they can buy that book... like it's it's fine, it's... Some of that is like complimentary. Like, it actually helps that there is, that there's a need in the market or there's competition in the market.

So anyway, but a lot of people are just paralyzed by competition and worrying about what other people are doing. And I'm telling you there, I mean, I'm a productivity coach. I deal with people all day long. I know what people are focused on and they are they're not executing at the level that you think they are in their head.

So take advantage of that if you can

If you can function at a super high level every single day, over time, man, you are going to you're going to crush your goals, I promise. And just the idea, that like, if you can think both long-term, like me and I have time, I'm going to, I've got a chunk of time here, and at the same time panning to make the most of today. But as long as I make the most of today, the time is there to to really do some amazing things, If you can kind of find that space in your head, it's hard. That's a weird spot.

Not... Not most people do not occupy both of those with their mind. They don't think short-term, I need to execute, I need to knock this stuff out, I need to have a great day, and then they also think I've got plenty of time... I want to do this, I want to think about the long game here. So if you can do that, I mean, you've... You're amazing, you've got a huge advantage. So you both have to be aggressive about the day and also realize, hey, there's time, don't freak out...You've got time.

If you're fifty, you're going to live until you're eighty-three. On average, you've got thirty-three years to go, so that's it.

That was meant to be an encouraging message, but we talked about death and life expectancy. I'm not sure I knocked this one out of the park. Regardless, take care of business, let's make it a great day.

I hope you guys are enjoying these recordings. I'm enjoying making them. It's interesting, but I'm... I'm enjoying it.

So I hope that you have a great day, I hope you make it a great day, let's just make today a great damn and have a great day today, and let's keep the momentum going, let's capitalize on what you did yesterday and what you did on Monday and... And... And just continue that into today.

So that's it, let's do it the next 24 hours.

You are not going to get back, make a plan and make the most out of it. You've got nine days left this month, make a plan and make the most out of that.

You've got 70 days left in Q2. Let's make a plan and make the most out of that and you've got 254 days left this year, let's do it.

Let's capitalize on that time.

You've got time.

You've... you've both got time, and you need to execute at your highest level possible today. So let's do it. Make it a great day. If you need anything, guys, let me know, you know where to hunt me down at bye.
